2015 has been a self-experimenting journey for me. I plugged off the internet on 31st Dec 2014. No facebook for a year. Also off twitter, instagram, pinterest & whatsapp for a long time.
I loved the internet & its been almost a leap year that I’ve been working in the same industry, surprisingly. For me, it is very overwhelming how the internet really takes a toll on you, your relationships, your connections and real people. It was a bit of a crisis, I was away from my social circle, lost touch with many people & couldn’t keep a track on which movie is up this weekend. People thought that I’m living under the rock! Recently read on the internet (such cliche) about something called FOBO. I m not talking about my Fake Boyfriend / Faux Beau; it mean Fear-Of-Being-Offline. And this thing literally exists in the youth today. People have a fear of things that they will miss out. Cultivating such fears is nothing but another way of self-sabotage.
This experiment of BEING OFFLINE gave me a lot of time to do many things:
- living consciously
- with more awareness
- being away from distractions
- knowing real people, real friends
- being mindful
- managing time & energy better
- efficiency & discipline
- less expenditure
- more savings
- being in the moment
- controllable anxiety & stress
- de-cluttered life
- and so on..
I know that’s not how you deal with life by going offline especially when your work demands to be out there. So I have decided to come back again & use it only as a medium of utility. Having 100+ tabs opened and 1000 unread mails in the inbox is invitation to more stress. Trust me, clearing them off can really make you relieved!
Happy to tell the internet that I’m here to take away things that I have missed from you and give things back to you which you have missed from me.
